
About Dr. Alexa

Alexa Matlack, PhD is a Seattle-based licensed psychologist and school psychologist by training. Dr. Alexa uses she/her pronouns. Her private practice work focuses on individual and family psychotherapy for teens and young adults, and parent consultation and behavior management support. Dr. Alexa also provides school consultation services to help families navigate the special education system within public schools and maximize educational support for youth attending private schools.
An alumnus of the University of Washington, Dr. Alexa earned her Ed.S (educational specialist) and PhD from the School Psychology Program. Her doctoral training was completed through an APA-approved predoctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health in Omaha, NE. In addition to Dr. Alexa’s private practice work, she is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Washington, where she teaches and supervises graduate-level school psychology trainees in their pursuit of their degrees.
Dr. Alexa spends her summers supporting youth and training adult counselors at APEX Summer Camp, a clinical behavioral summer program for autistic and neurodiverse youth with significant behavior challenges and social skills needs.

Psychotherapy & counseling
Dr. Alexa approaches her therapy work with youth and young adults utilizing a relational, client-centered, and culturally-responsive lens to achieve a strong therapeutic alliance. She believes the therapeutic relationship is of the highest priority. Dr. Alexa aims to provide all with a safe and non-judgmental environment to work on wellness and management of symptoms.

Parent consultation & behavior management support
Dr. Alexa is a certified parent child interaction therapist (PCIT) and provides parent consultation focusing on challenging child and adolescent behavior management (tantrums, physical aggression, property destruction & noncompliance), sleep challenges, and school behavioral and learning difficulties. Parent consultation work can also include parent identity exploration and examining ingrained parenting practices based on parent experiences in their own childhood.

School consultation & support
Dr. Alexa is a school psychologist by training and therefore has a thorough understanding of the special education system in public schools. She often supports families in navigating the process of seeking academic and social-emotional/behavioral services through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan Accommodations and other intervention support in local public and private schools.
Psychology Inter-jurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) and Teletherapy
Dr. Alexa holds an Authority to Practice Inter-jurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) and is able to practice teletherapy in 41 states and the District of Columbia.

Fees
Psychologists and other health care providers are required by law to give uninsured and self-pay patients a good faith estimate of costs for services that they offer under the No Surprises Act. Please read the following information that outlines cost of services.​

Insurance and out-of-network reimbursement: Dr. Alexa is out-of-network with all insurances. You may be able to use your out-of-network benefits to pay for services. This generally involves families paying out-of-pocket for services, and following you will be provided with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company. You will need to contact your insurance company to determine out-of-network coverage.​​​​
Therapy fees: The initial intake appointment is $215 and is typically 60-75 minutes. Therapy sessions range from 50-60 minutes are $185- $200 per session. ​
